Two new Fujifilm cameras, the GFX100S Mark II and the X-T50 are announced today. The medium-format GFX features a 102 megapixel sensor, which is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor. In, the new X-T50 is a true lightweight at 438g.
GFX100S II
Fuji’s latest medium-format camera, the GFX100 II is the lightest and most compact body in the GFX series, weighing 883g. It features a newly developed 102 megapixel sensor and powerful image stabiliser. It offers improved high-speed, high-precision autofocus.
This mirrorless digital camera is said to deliver rich tonal gradations and shallow depth of field, and features AI-based subject detection AF — a high-speed, precise AF that has been improved compared with the previous model.
Fuji claims that, with this fast and precise AF and improved continuous shooting speed of up to 7.0 frames per second, the GFX100S II accurately captures moving subjects. The in-body image stabilisation function has been improved to 5-axis with a maximum of an 8-stop saving, thus achieving the highest performance in the GFX Series.
According to the manufacturer, these features packed into a lightweight and compact body weighing approximately 883g offers users the image quality of the GFX in a wide range of situations. The camera is also claimed to produce smooth, colourful 4K/30P movies for high-quality image production.
The GFX100S II will be available in the United Kingdom from 17 June 2024 and will cost £4,999, including tax. This is a significant reduction on the price of its predecessor.
X-T50
The Fujifilm X-%50 features a compact and lightweight body, weighing approximately 438g and. It is equipped with a back-illuminated 40.2 megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor. The camera features a high-speed X-Processor 5 image processing engine and a 5-axis in-body stabilisation function, which equates to a seven-stop advantage.
For the first time, a film simulation dial has been incorporated on the top plate of the camera, allowing the user to switch effortlessly between film simulations. The company claims that this is a key feature unique to Fujifilm. It enables a wide variety of colour tones to be created in-camera.
The X-T50 also features a compact new form factor with a rounded design. Commentators have suggested that this camera, with a lightweight lens, is a more versatile alternative to the blockbuster X100VI with its fixed lens.
The X-T50 will be available in the United Kingdom from June 17 at a recommended price of £1,299, including tax. It will be available in kit form with either the XC 15–45mm zoom at £1,399 or the 16–50mm at £1,649.
